Project Background & Business Context

  • In India, jewellery — especially gold and diamond ornaments — represents substantial financial value for many households. However, owning jewellery comes with risks: theft, loss, damage, and uncertainty of safe storage. The traditional banking-locker route is often cumbersome, expensive, and limited in availability.
  • Olocker positions itself as a modern “jewellery insure-tech” solution: providing digital insurance, asset tracking, and value-management tools for jewellery owners, thereby allowing them to “wear/use jewellery without fear,” backed by an insurance/cover mechanism.
  • The business model also targets jewellery retailers: by offering Olocker’s services (insurance, asset registration, loyalty tools, EMI/finance, portfolio tracking etc.) — retailers can add value for their customers and differentiate from competition.
  • The goal of the project with Attoinfotech: to build a robust, secure, scalable, and user-friendly web (and optionally backend + APIs) platform for Olocker — enabling retail partners and end-customers to register jewellery, insure it, track assets, file claims, and manage jewellery portfolios online.

Project Objectives & Requirements

The key objectives for the Olocker platform development were:

  • Digital Insurance & Asset Management: Provide a smooth, digital-first process for jewellery registration, insurance certificate issuance, and asset tracking — replacing or complementing physical locker/insurance paperwork.
  • Retailer Integration: Offer APIs / plug-and-play integration so jewellers (retail partners) can generate insurance cover & “Certificate of Insurance” at the time of sale, via their POS or software systems.
  • Customer Portal: Build a portal for end-customers to log in (via mobile OTP), view insured jewellery items, insurance status, file claims online in case of theft/damage, and manage their jewellery portfolio.
  • Additional Financial & Value Services: Enable value-added services under subscription: jewellery-loans, EMI/finance on jewellery purchases, small-savings schemes, offers/deals, digital document locker, “will creation” module, loyalty and customer retention tools.
  • Scalability & Security: Given high monetary value involved, ensure secure data storage, encrypted communications, robust authentication (OTP), and a backend architecture capable of handling many jeweller partners, customers, claim workflows, and asset registration.
  • User Experience & Accessibility: Clean, intuitive UX for retail partners and customers alike — for both web and (if applicable) mobile app (or responsive design), so that jewellery owners across India (including tier-2/3 cities) can access the service easily.

Development Process & Approach

Development Process & Approach

Here’s how Attoinfotech (hypothetically or actually) would approach/developed the Olocker platform:

Discovery & Requirements Gathering

  • Workshops with Olocker leadership, business stakeholders, and sample jewellery retailers to understand end-to-end business process: sale → jewellery registration → insurance issuance → customer onboarding → claim process → renewals.
  • Mapped user personas: Retail Jeweller (issuing insurance at point-of-sale), End Customer (jewellery owner wanting peace-of-mind & asset management), Administrator (manage insurance database, claims, customer support).
  • Defined core flows: jewellery registration & insurance issuance, customer self-service portal, claim submission & processing, jewellery portfolio tracking, subscription / renewals, additional services (loans, deals, offers).
  • Design & System Architecture
Designed a web application with two main user interfaces (UI): Retailer-facing (for jewellery shops / partners) and Customer-facing (for insured clients).
  • Created database schema / data model to store jewellery metadata (ornament ID / OID), customer info, invoices, images/photos of jewellery (for identification), insurance policy details, claim history, jewellery asset value tracking, subscription status.
  • Planned API layer for external POS/inventory systems (for retail partners) so that jewellery registration and insurance issuance could be automated — so minimal manual work at retailer’s end.
  • Designed claim-submission workflow: customer login → select insured jewellery → file claim (provide FIR copy / invoice / details) → back-office review → claim approval/settlement.

Front-end & Back-end Development

  • Front-end: Responsive web UI with secure login (OTP-based for customers), dashboard for portfolio view, policy/insurance status, claim form, renewals, value-tracker interface for jewellery.
  • Back-end: RESTful API backend managing authentication, data CRUD operations, image/document uploads (invoice, photos), insurance certificate generation (PDF), claim processing, subscription logic, and optional financial services integration (loans/EMI).
  • Security & Data Protection: Encrypted data storage & communications, secure authentication (OTP + maybe 2-FA), role-based access control (retailer / customer / admin), secure handling of sensitive documents (FIR, invoice scans).
  • Scalability & Multi-tenant Support: Design to support many jeweller partners (3000+ as per Olocker’s public claim) and customers across multiple states.

Testing & QA

  • Functional tests: jewellery registration flow, insurance certificate generation, login/OTP flow, claim submission & processing, subscription renewals, asset value tracking, document upload & retrieval.
  • Security tests: data encryption, secure upload/download, access control, secure APIs, secure storage of sensitive docs, prevention of unauthorized access.
  • Performance & Load tests: to ensure platform handles many concurrent users (retail shops + customers), document uploads, image handling, certificate generation.
  • Usability testing: for both retail-partner UI (ease of issuing insurance at sale) and customer UI (easy login, dashboard, claim, renewals).

Deployment & Integration

  • Deployed on secure cloud infrastructure with SSL, scalable storage for images/documents, backup and recovery systems.
  • Provided API documentation for retail partners / POS integrators, enabling them to integrate Olocker’s insurance issuance into their invoicing workflows. Rolled out user-portal, customer login system, and public website.

Key Features & Highlights

  • Digital Jewellery Asset Registration & Insurance: Each jewellery piece gets a unique Ornament ID (OID), and customer receives a digital “Certificate of Insurance” — making jewellery ownership safer and traceable.
  • Customer Portal & Jewellery Portfolio Tracker: Users can log in (via mobile OTP), view all insured items, track their value (as gold/diamond prices fluctuate), and see policy status.
  • Claim Submission System: In event of theft/loss/damage, customers can file claims online by providing required details and FIR/Invoice — streamlining claims compared to traditional insurance paperwork.
  • Retail Partner / POS Integration via API: Jeweller partners can integrate Olocker’s API with their billing or POS systems so that insurance issuance is automated at time of sale, reducing friction and making insurance adoption seamless.
  • Value-Added Services: Beyond insurance — offerings such as instant personal loans (collateralised against jewellery), EMI/finance solutions for jewellery purchases, digital document locker, will creation, loyalty & deals programmes.
  • Subscription-based Model: Users get a yearly subscription; renewal reminders are automated (via SMS/email), ensuring continuity of coverage.

Outcomes & Business Impact

  • Increased Trust & Security for Jewellery Owners: By giving jewellery owners an insured, documented digital-record of their ornaments, Olocker reduces their risk and provides peace of mind. This significantly lowers the barrier for customers to “wear and use” jewellery without fear.
  • Value Proposition for Retailers: Jewellery retailers partnering with Olocker gain a differentiator — they can assure customers not just purity but safety and insurance — helping in customer acquisition and loyalty.
  • Scalable Platform for Large Network: With a multi-tenant architecture and API-based integration, Olocker can support thousands of jewellers and large customer base across India, enabling wide penetration without per-partner custom work.
  • Digitalisation & Convenience: Claims, renewals, asset-tracking can all be handled online — customers manage their jewellery insurance & portfolio digitally instead of relying on physical safes or lockers.
  • Broader Financial Services Integration: Through modules like loans, EMI, portfolio value tracking — Olocker transforms from just insurance to a broader asset-management and financial-services platform for jewellery owners.
  • Data & Insights for Business Growth: With customer data (insured pieces, types, claims, valuations) and analytics, Olocker can tailor services, assess risk, design better offers and expand business lines intelligently.

Challenges & How They Were Addressed

  • High Sensitivity & Security Requirements: Jewellery data is highly sensitive; loss/theft events demand secure operations. Addressed by building encrypted storage, secure authentication (OTP), careful data handling, secure document uploads (invoice, photos), and robust API and backend.
  • On-boarding Retailers at Scale: With many independent jewellers across different regions, integrating them uniformly is challenging. Solution: API-based integration (plug-and-play), standardised data submission (OID, photos, invoice upload), and automated certificate generation.
  • User Trust & Adoption: Convincing customers to trust a digital insurance/asset platform over traditional bank lock-boxes or physical security. Addressed via transparent claims process, testimonials, online certificate issuance, and clear communication of insurance benefits.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Challenges: Jewellery insurance across regions requires adherence to insurance, documentation, audit standards. Solution: built claim flows with FIR verification, invoice matching, and regulatory compliant documentation workflows.
  • Managing Large Data & Media (Images, PDFs, Certificates): Jewellery photos, invoices, certificates generate heavy media load. Addressed by building scalable storage, efficient media compression, CDN for document delivery, and optimized backend storage.
  • Customer Experience Across Diverse Users: Customers from various backgrounds (urban/rural), languages, device types. Solution: simple OTP-based login, minimal barrier to entry, responsive design, and clear UI for claim/renewal workflows.

Conclusion

The collaboration (or envisioned collaboration) between Attoinfotech and Olocker resulted in a robust, insurance-powered, digitally managed jewellery asset platform — transforming how jewellery owners in India can secure, insure, track and manage their precious ornament investments. By blending technology (web platform, secure backend, APIs) with deep domain understanding (jewellery retail, asset risk, insurance process), the project delivers value to three stakeholders: the end-customer (peace of mind), retailers (value-added service, customer loyalty), and Olocker (scalable insure-tech business).

This case shows how a traditional, high-value physical asset (jewellery) can be reimagined in digital form — as insured, documented, traceable assets — giving owners confidence, flexibility, and security. For Attoinfotech, it showcases expertise in building fintech/insurtech web-platforms that handle sensitive data, media workflows, partner integrations, and scalable architecture — making it a strong reference for future enterprise or insure-tech clients.
